This week I started my last project of the year. I first began by using Golden acrylic liquid to deposit color on the canvas. Then I just a spray bottle with water to move around the color and began to layer it. After having a conversation with Coach Hall about my next steps, I tried to add some negative space to the piece by using different shades of white.

For this quarter's experience, Ms. Nicewinter from the VMFA came to talk to us about Inka art history. I learned a lot of new words during the lecture including verticality, qumpi, camay, camac, and many more. It was interesting to learn about the empire from a historian/ art historian because I never learned any of these things from school. I was mostly amazed by the craftsmanship of the tunics the Inka wore and the detailed meaning behind all of the images. The Inka culture reminds me of other cultures, for example, camay in the Inka culture reminds me of chi and chan in Chinese culture. Overall, I thought the presentation was very engaging.
Decided to restart my at home project because I wasn't feeling my original idea. I first taped off the border and then did sharpie over it. Then I layered it with a gel medium then put a minty green paint wash over it. Finally I put some red streaks over it.
For homework, we had the task of working on our independent project. I was nervous to put paint on canvas since I was working with oil paint, which I haven't really work with a lot. I search up videos on YouTube and read some articles on different techniques, so next week I feel like I'll be more comfortable with getting a good start to it.This week I finished up my project. From last week, I added layered of soy wax and slides to my piece.
Last week I was kinda lost on what to do, so I just messed around. At the beginning of the week, I drew some linear elements and circles on the canvas, then shifted to wanting to paint something from a slide to then painting over that with a paint wash.
For this awareness post, I decided to investigate Sarah Sze's work. Sarah Sze is an American contemporary artist primarily known for her sculptures and installations. She uses everyday objects to create multimedia landscapes. Sarah went to school at the School of Visual Arts, Yale University, Milton Academy, and Bradford College. I find she work interesting to look at and like how she uses multiple mediums in her work. I Also like the linear lines that are in play within her pieces.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dcdf9JxXxac- Tracing Fallen Sky I started my 5th project this week and just decided to paint over my last painting. The first day I wasn't quite sure what I was doing, but the second and third studio day I worked through the idea of a grey area of yes and no (more about this in my planning page). When I was going to make grey, I realized I didn't have any black, so I used a combination of white, blue, red, and yellow which worked out for the better. Over the weekend, I'm going to finalize my ideas into something more cohesive.
